The other day, a preliminary test of a mechanized demining machine of a domestic manufacturer took place at one of the testing grounds in the suburbs of Kyiv.

As the territory of Ukraine has large volumes of mining, the demand for machines of this type is great.

Only a sufficient amount of such equipment will allow quick and high-quality demining of the territories of Ukraine, primarily agricultural lands.

The tests were attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defense, State Emergency Service, Ministry of Social Policy, CF “CF First Foundation for Rebuilding Ukraine” and other organizations.

The other day, we signed a Memorandum on Cooperation between the VSP SEAL Center and the First Foundation for Rebuilding Ukraine, the main tasks of which are to facilitate the humanitarian demining of the territory of Ukraine and rebuild and restore the infrastructure of our country.

Both parties agreed to assist each other in the implementation of practical measures aimed at the implementation of projects in the field of demining activities, restoration of territories that were under occupation or in which warfare was conducted, increasing the population’s awareness of the rules for handling explosive objects, understanding chemical and biological effects of explosive substances on the environment, etc.

We are sure that our joint efforts will allow us to effectively overcome challenges and threats to Ukraine in the field of our cooperation and return the affected regions to peaceful life as soon as possible.

Everything will be – Ukraine! We will win!

This was announced by the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, the Minister of Economy, Yuliia Svyrydenko, during the panel discussion “Humanitarian Demining of Ukraine: A Look to the Future” at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Over the past year, more than 10% of territories or about 18 thousand square kilometers of Ukrainian lands, which were considered potentially contaminated, have already been returned to use. To speed up the processes of humanitarian demining, efforts are being made to attract private capital and investments.

Ukraine’s main goal for 2024 in the field of humanitarian demining is to launch a market for relevant services.

Therefore, the Ministry of Economy plans to implement several legislative, technological, and financial initiatives in this regard.

Currently, emphasis is being placed on the application of innovative technologies in demining, as well. In particular, the use of drones, satellite images, remote earth scanning technologies, and the involvement of artificial intelligence.

In addition to Ukraine and Lithuania, 19 countries took part in the meeting, and representatives of six more participated remotely. Our country was represented by members of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces.

They gave the partners a list of our needs in the field of demining so that each of the member states of the Coalition could contribute to the common cause.

The purpose of the Coalition of Demining Ukraine is to coordinate the current and future support of Ukraine from donor countries in the field of demining.

A support fund is also being created to achieve the goals of the coalition, including the provision of equipment necessary for demining the territory of Ukraine.

The Lithuanian-led coalition will assist Ukraine in both combat and humanitarian demining.

According to the plan for the next year, the following areas of work were singled out: digitization of the sphere; creation of a transparent market for humanitarian demining services; stimulation of national production in the field of humanitarian demining; coordination of resources to ensure priority in the use of resources.

According to Roman Palchykov, the head of the First Foundation for Rebuilding Ukraine, this Strategy has long been overdue, since it is the state that should regulate such issues at the legislative level so that all participants in the process have a vector regarding this essential activity and can fully unite their efforts around it. And in the future to move forward more actively for demining and cleaning Ukraine.

— demining the territories of Ukraine.
